La rotonde n 'est pas le seul temple antique dont la ville de Salonique ait conservé les restes. Une mosquée qui porte le nom d'Eski-Djuma, paraît être un monument beaucoup plus ancien : il passe, parmi les Francs, pour avoirété consacré à Vénus; m a i s les Grecs devenus Chrétiens l'ayant dédié à je ne sais quel saint, et les Turcs à leur tour l'ayant transformé en mosquée , l'ont tellement défiguré, soit dans l'intérieur, soit à l'extérieur, qu'ila perdu sa forme et son élégance (I).

Η εκκλησία της Παναγίας Αχειροποιήτου είναι παλαιοχριστιανική βασιλική της Θεσσαλονίκης, η οποία σήμερα σώζεται στην ίδια μορφή που κατασκευάστηκε τον 5ο αιώνα - γεγονός που την καθιστά μοναδική στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο. Βρίσκεται στην οδό Αγίας Σοφίας, απέναντι από την πλατεία Μακεδονομάχων και η ίδρυσή της τοποθετείται στην περίοδο 450-475. Είναι αφιερωμένη στη Θεοτόκο και η ονομασία της οφείλεται στην "αχειροποίητη" λατρευτική εικόνα της Θεοτόκου δεομένης που βρισκόταν στο ναό.

The church of Panagia Achiropoietou is an early Christian basilica of Thessaloniki, which today survives in the same form that was built in the 5th century - a fact that makes it unique in the eastern Mediterranean. It is located on Agias Sofias Street, opposite Makedonomachon Square and its foundation is placed in the period 450-475. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and its name is due to the "handmade" worship image of the Virgin Mary that was found in the temple.
