Spaniako, where we arrive at three p.m. is about ale to the south-west of the remains. We have now nearly returned to Selino-kasteli, which is only about three miles further southward. Between the site of Kantanos and the village of Spaniako, I fall in with a Mohammedan who has been at London, as one of the attendants of a Turkish ambassador, and who, on other occasions, has visited Leghorn and Marseilles.

Μετά την περιήγησή του στον Κάτανο, ο Pashley πέρνει το δρόμο προς το Σπανιάκο. Λίγο έξω από το χωριό συναντά ένα οθωμανό, ο οποίος τον χαιρτετά και όπως αποκαλύπτεται γνωρίζει τη γλώσσα των Άγγλων. Είχε επισκεφτεί παλαιότερα το Λονδίνο ως ακόλουθος του Οθωμανού πρέσβυ. Ο Οθωμανός αξιωματούχος ενημερώνει το συγγραφέα ότι θα πρέπει να επισκεφτεί τον Βλιθιά και την Ανώπολη, εφόσον αναζητά αρχαιότητες. Ο Pashley αλλάζει πορεία συνεχίζοντας το ταξίδι του στο νότο των Χανίων.

After his tour of Katano, Pashley crosses the road to Spaniakos. Just outside the village he meets an Ottoman, who greets him and as it is revealed he knows the English language. He had previously visited London as a follower of the Ottoman ambassador. The Ottoman official informs the author that he should visit Vlithias and Anopolis, if he is looking for antiquities. Pashley changes course continuing his journey to the south of Chania.
