This Greek chapel stands nearly due north and south, instead of east and west as is usual in all orthodox Greek as well as Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. This architectural peculiarity of the building puzzled my Nopian guide quite as much as myself.

Πρόκειται για ναό του 9ου αιώνα με τοιχογραφίες του 14ου και 15ου αιώνα. Ο Pashley φυσικά επισκέπτεται το ναό λόγω της θέσης του. Ο ναός είναι κτισμένος σε τοποθεσία που βρισκόταν ιερό της Αρτέμιδος. Με αφορμή τον προσανατολισμό του ναού, ο συγγραφέας ενημερώνει τον αναγνώστη για πρακτική προσανατολισμού των χριστιανικών και μουσουλμανικών χώρων λατρείας.

It is a 9th century church with 14th and 15th century frescoes. Pashley of course visits the temple because of its location. The temple is built on a site that was a sanctuary of Artemis. On the occasion of the orientation of the temple, the author informs the reader about the practice of orientation of the Christian and Muslim places of worship.
