en The river Aposelémi is only about a mile from Güves. Before we reached this stream, we passed on our left the church of Hāghios Gheorghios, near which there used to be several houses. They are now in ruins, as is the church, to which however the Papás of Gáves comes and officiates annually on April 23d (O.S.), the day of its patron Saint. Just below the church, we see on the shore the wreck of an Egyptian corvette. She got ashore here and was lost in December last: she brought Mehmét-Ali's final orders, in consequence of which more than thirty Cretans were executed immediately
after, without even the semblance of justice or law. It is a pity that the despatches were not lost as well as the vessel.

el Οι Κάτω Γούβες είναι μεγάλος οικισμός της επαρχίας Πεδιάδας με 1.220 κατοίκους και ομώνυμο Δημοτικό διαμέρισμα και έδρα στο Δήμο Γουβών του νομού Ηρακλείου. Η θέση του είναι στους δυτικούς πρόποδες του υψώματος Έντερη (322 μ.). Το Έντερη πιστεύεται ότι προέρχεται από το hedera, που σημαίνει κισσός, σύμβολο στοργής. Η κύρια ασχολία των κατοίκων είναι η αμπελοκαλλιέργεια και η ελαιοκαλλιέργεια, ενώ παράγονται λάδι, κρασί και κηπευτικά (τομάτας), όπως επίσης και πεπονιών. Η απόσταση από το Ηράκλειο είναι 20,1 χλμ.

en Kato Gouves is a large settlement in the province of Pediada with 1,220 inhabitants and the homonymous Municipal Department and seat in the Municipality of Gouves in the prefecture of Heraklion. Its position is at the western foot of the Enteri hill (322 m.). The intestine is believed to come from hedera, which means ivy, a symbol of affection. The main occupation of the inhabitants is the viticulture and the olive cultivation, while oil, wine and vegetables (tomato) are produced, as well as melons. The distance from Heraklion is 20.1 km.
