A descent of about half an hour from this pic turesque village brings us to the ruins of a Venetian fortress called Palaeokastron, and situated near the sea side, to the west of Rhogdhiá. I believe Palaeokastron to be the site not only of a Venetian castle, but of an ancient city.

Το Παλαιόκαστρο ή Παλιόκαστρο είναι παραθαλάσσιος οικισμός της επαρχίας Μαλεβιζίου αποτελεί κομμάτι του Δημοτικού διαμερίσματος Ροδιά του Δημου Μαλεβιζιου, με 255 κατοίκους, με βάση την απογραφή του 2011 και περισσότερους από 1.500 κατοίκους με εξοχικές κατοικίες δημογραφημένους στο Ηράκλειο. Η απόστασή του από το Ηράκλειο είναι περίπου 8 χλμ. και βρίσκεται δυτικά από την πόλη του Ηρακλείου. Η μικρή παραλία του συνδυάζει τα βότσαλα στην δεξιά πλευρά και την αμμουδιά στην αριστερή επίσης μένει ανεπηρέαστη από τους ισχυρούς βόρειους ανέμους της περιοχής.

Paleokastro or Paliokastro is a coastal settlement in the province of Malevizi, part of the Rodia Municipal District of the Municipality of Malevizi, with 255 inhabitants, based on the 2011 census and more than 1,500 inhabitants with holiday homes registered in Heraklion. Its distance from Heraklion is about 8 km and is located west of the city of Heraklion. Its small beach combines pebbles on the right side and the sandy beach on the left also remains unaffected by the strong north winds of the area.
