At some little distance from this ancient acropolis, on the side of the hill, just above the modern village,is the dilapidated church of Hāghios Ioannes: its sidesand roof are entirely covered with rude fresco paintings,and a considerable part of its floor consists of remainsof mosaic work, of no great excellence, but still of considerable antiquity, and which I should suppose to have belonged originally to the building, the place of which was afterwards occupied by the Christian church.
