en I ought to have kept close to the shore, towards which I now proceed, and in less than an hour arrive at Dhrámia, a little village entirely occupied by Sfakians, who descend from their homes, on the higher ranges of the mountains, in the month of October or November, and remain here till the following April. If they staid up in Sfakiá, they would be confined to their houses, by the snow, for several weeks in the winter: and those who remain lay in a stock of food and fuel before the heavy falls of snow, just as if they were going to sea for some weeks.
